Day 345: Get caught at the corner of Rape Street and Mugging Ave.

Staying out late in Chicago when you live in Evanston has its disadvantages. Chief among them is the fact that the Purple Line – the train that takes us up to Engelhart, closes at 2am. That means you either have to take a cab from the Howard stop up to our apartment, which costs $15, or, for the more adventurous types, you take the N201 bus which picks up passengers from the station every half hour.
So tonight we were stranded, and took the option for graduate students on a budget: the bus. And as usual, there were a number of shady characters greeting us around every corner. A very twitch woman. A man rambling to himself about the density of latex. An unmarked green sedan whose driver stopped and asked if we wanted a cab ride up to Evanston. It was lovely. And then the downpour started.
We waited, huddled in a tunnel as a swarm of spiders dangled above our heads. It was lovely.
And then it was 5am. Goodnight.
