Day 299: See a concert at the Pritzker Pavilion

June 28, 2011 § 1 Comment

Finally had the chance to see a concert at the Pritzker Pavilion today, as part of Millenium Park’s Summer Concert Series.

Got to see Glen Hansard for the second time – of Once and Swell Season fame – though this time he performed an entire set alone.

Though the park is huge, we were only five rows back and dead center, which was close enough for me to snag a video of Glen performing a cover of Van Morrison’s “Astral Weeks.”

Pardon the poor sound quality, as apparently the video camera on my Android is terrible. Also, you may have to suffer through the occasional elbow and head of the people sitting in front of me. They kept leaning into my shot. Regardless, hopefully this is enough to illustrate what an incredible, passionate musician Glen is. I suggest you download his album, Strict Joy, immediately.

BIg music acts in a park on a Monday night are just another benefit of living in a big city like Chicago. In Portland, I’d be stuck with Pink Martini or Five Guys Named Moe.
