Day 136: Tour a brewery

January 16, 2011 § Leave a comment

So apparently the theme of this weekend was beer, as I’m following up going to a brewing class with taking a tour of an actual brewery.

Although I’ve gone to a number of breweries in Portland for food and drinks, I had never actually seen inside the inner workings of one. Therefore, a group of us used the long weekend as an excuse to go to Goose Island Brewery, the biggest independent brewery in Chicago, to go behind the scenes.

It was interesting to see the giant fermenters, barrels and pipes, but we didn’t get to walk around much or actually look into any of the fermenters. The location we went to is not where they mass produce beer for bottling, so it was pretty small but still a lot of fun.

The tour was only 7 dollars and also included a beer tasting with a  free flight.

My favorite was the third from the left, a Scottish ale called “Caber Toss.”

I can think of few better ways to have spent the weekend. Case closed.
