Day 85: Experience Black Friday on Michigan Avenue
November 27, 2010 § 1 Comment
Hordes of excited shoppers, twinkling lights in trees lining the street, religious fanatics preaching through a megaphone – these elements were all a part of the Black Friday experience downtown this afternoon.
While we had no desire to arrive at the crack of dawn, Steph and I still managed to spend 7 hours shopping throughout the afternoon and into the evening. I had some trouble finding worthy gifts for friends and family, but happened to stumble across a number of items for myself.
A good part of the day was dedicated to finding Stephanie some boots. But not just any boots – she was looking for tan, flat boots that went higher then the ankle and had some sort of interesting trait, such as buttons or buckles, that made them exciting. These boots would be the final element of her expansive boot collection, she said.
We scaled the mighty escalators of Macy’s, ransacked the murky depths of shoe boxes cluttering the floor of Aldo and sifted through the maze of shelves at the Rack, but to no avail. It was not until we decided to plunder Nordstrom that we found the elusive beast. She slipped them on her feet and had a Cinderella moment. I then rose from the uncomfortable leather cushion and grinned at the other boyfriends strung out on nearby cushions, their girlfriends still looking for that perfect shoe. I knew that dinner was in sight.
Then we came home, ate leftovers and pulled out the box of Christmas decorations.
The season begins!
