Day 50: Go to a Ducks bar in Chicago

Medill Oregonians flock together for the Duck game

[Cue theme song from Cheers]: Sometimes you want to go where everybody is from Oregon.

I didn’t get home until after midnight last night, so am counting this as having happened today.

It turns out they have a bar where University of Oregon Ducks fans can congregate, always packed and complete with all sorts of memorabilia. I met up with the other Medill Oregonians at Witts Tavern off of the Diversey Street L stop.

We sat out on a back patio covered by a tarp, complete with about 6 TVs, including a projector screen. For a one dollar raffle ticket, I got a Beat Cal shirt and my name put into a pool for a football autographed by coach Chip Kelly.

We chowed down on pulled pork sandwiches as the Ducks annihilated the UCLA Bruins. They even had Bridgeport IPA on tap for $4, and complimentary Coors Light until 7:30.

For a few hours I felt like I was back in Rip City. Then I stepped back out into the reality of the sharp fall wind and the hour long commute home on the train.
