Day 46: Attend a Village Board Meeting

October 18, 2010 § 2 Comments

Tonight my class attended a board meeting for the Village of Skokie. We furiously scribbled down notes in the audience as the board sat above us, mumbling “Aye” into their microphones. Highlights of the meeting included:

  • The continuance of road construction at the intersection of Golf Road and Skokie Boulevard
  • How the number of parking places should be calculated for a new cancer treatment center
  • The need for a stop sign on Kenneth Road, which the residents living in nearby Lincolnwood apparently treat like a “Drag Lane

If this is my future in journalism, please shoot me now.

Check out Powder Magazine for some clever magazine writing. It might inspire you instead of depress you. My son and I particularly liked the letter on page 90 called Dear Snowboarding.
You may also be inspired by this article–Sofa Kings, Four Writers, $500, one long weekend and 100,000 vertical feet of skiing. Even if you aren’t a skier, I’m sure you can appreciate the assignment as a writer. As my son would say “sweet.”
I’m enjoying your blog. Thanks to Lana M. for telling me about it.
