Day 29: Drink a habanero mojito

Tonight we dined at Nacional 27, a  Latin restaurant and dance club about six blocks west of N. Michigan Avenue. While the food was great, the mixed drinks are particularly of note because they are the recipes of a famous mixologist named Adam Seger. There were quite a few strange sounding drinks, such as the “Chicagoan” (irish whiskey sour, 312 beer float, sport pepper), but I decided to go for the “Chadwick” (10 cane rum, mint, lime, pomegranate, ginger, habañero). Somehow it managed to be super spicy and refreshing at the same time, which was pretty impressive.

I have included a chart that shows the hotness of habaneros compared to other peppers so that you can fully grasp how the ingredient affected the drink. Maybe tomorrow night I will do some mixology of my own and blend jalapenos into a rum and coke with my magic bullet. Stephanie always tries to tell me that mixing flavors together just because I like them separately isn’t a good idea, but who listens to her?
