Day 4: Attend a game at Wrigley Field

September 6, 2010 § 1 Comment

It is difficult to live in Chicagoland without taking sides in the great debate of Cubs v. Whitesox. We were told by locals that living on the north side makes us de facto Cubs fans, and thus we purchased the proper fan ware and spent our Labor Day at Wrigley Field. As we entered the ballpark, a woman to our right puked all over the concrete floor. It was only 12:30pm, so whether her barfing was excitement or alcohol induced was unclear. We bought a couple of hot dogs and an Old Style lager (the official beer of the Chicago Cubs), before heading to our seats in the Terrace Reserved section. We were about 40 rows up from home plate, so we were close enough to see everything clearly, but far enough back that the upper decks blocked a short rain shower in 6th inning. The Cubs beat the Houston Astros 5 to 4 with a solo home run in the 8th inning by catcher Geovany Soto, which we celebrated with a soft pretzel and a cup of nacho cheese. We left Wrigley to the symphonic sounds of “Go, Cubs, Go” over the stadium loudspeakers: “Hey, Chicago, what do you say, the Cubs are gonna win today – go, Cubs, go!”
